Based on my personal experience, I estimate that the answers to 45% of all book-based academic questions (from college level, up) can be found free online if you know how to really search well. I estimate another 10-15% can be found online at a cost of under $15, these are mainly essays and case studies.
What does this say about the current state of education?

Publishing new editions of textbooks each year isn’t the answer.
