Friday’s Featured Friend: PayScale

As featured on TechCrunch, a great website that provides tons of useful information for graduates is PayScale.com

PayScale is a website that provides analysis comparing salaries and benefits for a given job function, in a given location based on the inputs of other with similar skills and experience.

Users are asked to input information about their current position (if you’re a student you could input information from a past job). The user can then access detailed salary information in the database, including custom reports based on salary, bonus, commission, hourly rates, and health and vacation benefits. The basic service is free, and PayScale generates revenue by up-selling users to premium accounts and selling the anonymous information to third parties.

This site is useful for researching salaries for a given area (maybe you’re choosing between relocating to San Francisco or Chicago), for negotiating a better salary or raise, or just planning your next career move.
